Welcome to the Easter edition of the ELAS online newsletter. One of the major aims of our organisation is to keep you, our members, apprised of changes and developments in the world of Education Law. To do this we offer a programme of training, Special Interest groups (SIGS) and our first class publication Education Public Law and the individual (EPLI).
EPLI and SIGS are free to members. Our annual conference and seminars are very competitively priced to ensure they are accessible to our full range of membership.
The next opportunity to attend an ELAS Training session with be the
Education Law Update seminar on May 8th
1.30 pm to 5pm at The Friends House

This will include a full review of education law cases decided in court during 2006 and 2007.
Contributors will include Mark Blois, Head of Education at Browne Jacobson and Richard Bird Legal Consultant to ACSL. We are hoping to confirm at least one other speaker and members will be kept updated on details of the seminar.
Prices have been maintained at very competitive levels and the seminar will prove to be extremely good value for money. Full details and a booking form are contained on the second attachment sent out with this newsletter.
News round up and other matters….
· Membership renewal - Many thanks to those of you who responded so promptly and renewed your subscriptions. Further reminders have been sent out to some members who have possibly mislaid the original details. If you have not receive Volume 11 Issue 2 of EPLI then it is probable that we have not received your subscription.
· Schools Interest Group – new date for your diary Wednesday June 11th at Winckworths, 35 Great Peter St SW1 at 4 pm
Concerned with admissions? Fed up with the misinformation on admissions in
the media? Come and hear the people at the sharp end tell it like it is - we
are inviting an admissions officer, panel members, clerk, parent, head of an
oversubscribed school. There will be plenty of time for discussion so
perhaps we can come up with some workable suggestions to put to the School
Adjudicator's review.
And don't forget there will be the traditional wine and strawberries.
· SEN Special Interest Group – June 17th at Matrix , Grey’s Inn London, WC1R 5LN at 4pm.
The meeting will be addressed by Oliver Hyams on the subject of SEN & the Further Education/School interface.
· The Fourth ELAS Conference
‘SEN: At What Cost ?’
Is to be held on 25th September 2008 at Royal Institute of British Architects, 66 Portland Place London W1B 1AD, from 9.00am to 5.30pm.
The programme is currently being compiled and details will be sent to members shortly.
